The Vane

I launched Gawker’s weather vertical, The Vane, back in March 2014 as the website’s home for coverage of the weather and the media that reports on it (or attempts to report on it, anyway). The site thrived for 21 months until the company ended the blog in an editorial reshuffling on November 17, 2015.

Reaching an average of 300,000 to 400,000 unique visitors per month, I wrote nearly one thousand posts for The Vane during its time online. Topics I covered on the blog included urgent severe weather coverage, in-depth explainers of complex meteorological phenomena, criticism of the media, and lighter topics like gaffes and ridiculous conspiracy theories like chemtrails.
